Obtaining the ISVO Scholarship was one of those events in life that will be remembered and cherished forever. It was a very productive experience. First and foremost I gained a lot of knowledge in research (a path that I will now most definitely continue to pursue) - manuscript writing, data analysis, participation in journal club and discussions etc. There was a chance to examine equine patients this was very helpful to me due to lack of experience particularly in this area of veterinary ophthalmology. Observation and hands on training in microsurgery was extremely beneficial. I got to see different techniques in both adnexal and corneal surgeries and procedures (cross linking, laser treatments in equine patients, cataract surgery) most of which I will now readily apply to my patients. This scholarship is a great opportunity for professional growth and I highly encourage colleagues that have a passion for EYES to apply for it! You just may be the next lucky one!   P.S. Israel is definitely a place of special presence and part of it are the people – sincere, smart, and always smiling! Mazel tov!

I could not thank the entire team enough for providing me with an excellent week of experiencing advanced veterinary ophthalmology practice and being able to immerse myself in a wonderful teaching environment at the veterinary teaching hospital of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I learned so much about the clinical reasoning of small animal ophthalmological diseases and gained a lot of experience in patient examination and evaluation throughout the very short but fruitful externship. The caseload of the ophthalmology department was a treasure, and I was lucky enough to see some innovative therapies that I had not seen before during this externship. In addition, I was treated by the local students as a part of them from the very beginning, and there was not one minute I felt bored during my stay.  The ophthalmology department is composed of a very talented team. I enjoyed the teaching and case discussion with Dr Lionel Sebbag, Dr Oren Pe’er, Dr Dikla Arad, Dr Karin Handel, and Prof Ron Ofri. I would say the students from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem are very lucky to have such a high-quality ophthalmology block in their curriculum.

Visiting the Ophthalmology Service at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine for the first time, was definitely a fantastic professional experience, which made me return almost every year since then. Looking back at the periods spent there, we can only express our gratitude for the opportunity to expand our knowledge and skills in this beautiful field and also to learn more about the fascinating Israeli culture. The most precious gift we received throughout our visits was the chance to meet such friendly and generous people, whom today we fondly call ¨dear friends¨. Already looking forward to being there again!

Great souls and great places will pass your life and become incredible memories that’ll stay forever in your heart. During my Residency in Ophthalmology under my awesome Mentor Nils Wallin Håkansson and during my years working with him I traveled to many parts of the world to learn more about Ophthalmology. In Israel I had the luck to visit Prof Ron Ofri who showed his work with great enthusiasm. I met wonderful animals, from mice to rhinos. He has done and is still doing an amazing job that has helped many animals and humans. I’m deeply impressed. He is also a lovable person, you could se that both his colleagues, the animal owners and the animals likes him a lot. Thank you for having me, I had an amazing time.

People seem to come from all over the world to work at and visit the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine. I understand why. I came from the Nordic countries and joined Prof. Ron Ofri, Dr. Lionel Sebbag, Dr. Oren Pe’er and Dr. Karin Handel for a fantastic inspiring and giving week of Ophthalmology. I am doing a Swedish Specialist programme in Ophthalmology and really enjoyed being at the Academia. Everyone was so friendly and patient, taking their time for everyones ophthalmic examination, the discussions of treatments and procedures, the sharing of knowledge from articles and the fine surgeries. I enjoyed both the wet-lab and the patients having adnexal, corneal and intra-ocular surgeries, the laser and debridement techniques. We even managed to have time for doing ERG and ocular ultrasound. Thank you so much, I will bring a lot of good memories and new experience back to the North, where I will share it with my colleagues, clients and all the dear ophthalmic patients.

In 2008 I got the chance to visit Prof. Ron Ofri's Ophthalmology Service. Having met Dr. Ofri on several ECVO and ACVO meetings, and being very interested in travelling to Israel, I asked him if I would be allowed to visit him. Since I had good recommendations, luckily for me he agreed. Everybody in the University (doctors, students and visitors from several other countries) were very welcoming - and I must say, we had a great time! I got to join the students for their rounds and saw many interesting eye cases - one day even a tiger was in the OR to be examined. The most impressive day was, when the rhinoceroses in the Safari of Ramat Gan had to be castrated. Of course we took the chance to examine the rhino's eyes when they were sleeping. I still keep that picture - it impresses everybody! The country, the people, sun, beach and food- I am looking forward to visiting again one day.

I visited Koret ophthalmology service in May 2007 for 3 weeks to shadow Dr. Ron Ofri.
This was my first international trip on my own and all my anxiety was put to rest because of the warm welcome I received at the Ophthalmology service. I stayed at the dormitories of the agricultural university and took a bus to the Koret school of veterinary medicine which was a great experience in itself.

Shadowing Dr. Ofri exposed me to so many new concepts in ophthalmology which were completely foreign to me at the time. Dr. Ofri has been my mentor since then and his guidance has helped me through my initial years.

I sincerely thank Dr. Ofri and Koret ophthalmology service for accepting me as an observer all those years ago, it truly changed the course of my career.

In 2009 I completed my first internship with Professor Ron Ofri at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine in Jerusalem. This was an unbelievably enriching experience in veterinary ophthalmology! Dr Ron Ofri is a scientific genius and a real expert in his field.
The friendly school staff helped me in every possible way and generously shared their professional knowledge with me. I was even invited to join several research projects, which were absolutely fascinating. During the internship period I was lucky to have worked with different kinds of animals, including rhinoceroses and hippos.

I feel privileged to have shared the life of the Koret School family, which will always
have a special place in my heart!

During the first week I joined Professor Ron Ofri  along with residents and veterinary students. The detailed ophthalmic examination protocol and the clinical rounds with students and residents followed were similar back home. The ERG facility which is not present in my institution was my main area of focus and this part was well covered in the science section. Other topics covered were various parts of the ERG machines, calibration method and its procedure. There were also journal club and professional meet of ophthalmology clinicians where I presented a talk on “Comparative ophthalmology services in India.” In total the research work in the visual science lab is well conducted with the help of studious and PhD scholars attached to the project. This exchange program was very helpful to study the real scenario in a research environment.

Spending 2 weeks in the Ophthalmology service at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine, learning from Prof. Ron Ofri, Dr. Lionel Sebbag, Dr. Oren Pe’er and Dr. Karin Handel was for sure the best opportunity I had in this field so far.

Even if the time was short, I managed to participate in detailed eye examinations, ocular ultrasounds, surgeries, laser procedures, ERGs, corneal cross-linking and many more. I took back home a lot of new knowledge, but most importantly, I got motivated to pursue a career in veterinary ophthalmology.

I will be forever grateful for this opportunity and for the kindness that everybody showed me there, also having my hopes up that I can visit them again sometime soon.

It was a pleasure to visit ophthalmology department of Koret Teaching Hospital. Especially the friendly dialogues, scientific atmosphere, instructive and analytical thinking. Fortunately, I was in the same scientific study environment with Prof. Ron Ofri for a week.

Prof. Ron Ofri and his residents taught me about electroretinography, which I now practice with much enthusiasm. They were incredibly welcoming and amazing teachers, I consider myself very lucky to learn from them

I really enjoyed my visit to the ophthalmology department, many interesting cases and a very helpful and capable team. |Thank you for everything! Ευχαριστώ

I had a wonderful and educational time in Israel. Prof. Ofri, Dr. Sebbag and Dr. Arad were very welcoming and made us feel like a part of the team. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

The four weeks of my ophthalmology externship was an enriching experience. I learnt from the very basic eye examination to the more advanced eye surgeries. Prof. Ofri’s teaching and his wide experience added to my knowledge. The college staff made my stay very comfortable and never did i feel like a visitor. Language was never a barrier. I would strongly recommend students to study at Koret and visit friendly Israel.

During my visit with Prof. Ofri at the Koret Veterinary School, we were dealing with a various number of cases - simple and more complicated. In the end of the day we were discussing all the cases which I found very beneficial. I gained confidence in how to approach and diagnose ophthalmological problems in small animals.

This gave me a good foundation for my vocation as a veterinary practitioner. I would definitely do it again!

A clinic that gathers friendly academics who are eager to share what they know! The school that is at the forefront of the clinics I have visited!
You should definitely visit this clinic and work with your colleagues who work with the aim of being the best in their profession!

Professor Ron Ofri and Dr Gil Ben Shlomo were incredible mentors. They were exceptionally knowledgeable about the subject and the teaching methodologies. I had also the chance to wander in the beautiful and charming town of Jerusalem, where there were enough things to do to keep me busy when I was not in the lab.

All in all my experience was absolutely excellent .

I had wonderful mentors that would eventually become true friends. The school is an amazing value and I would highly recommend it.

I really had a great time at the ophthalmology service with Dr. Lionel Sebbag and Dr. Oren Pe'er. I had the opportunity to learn from different cases and improve my knowledge. I also had the experience to follow a consult of an eagle with an eye injury, something I will never forget.
